CBT, DAS and Post Test training
Live to ride, but always ride to live!
The Standard Motorcycle Test (A2) is taken on a motorcycle or scooter of between 121 and 125 cc, which should be capable of a speed of at least 100kph (62mph).
If you pass the Standard motorcycle test you will have restrictions for 2 years, please read below.
Requirements before riding.
- A current provisional licence, showing category 'A', or full car licence.
- A current DL 196 (CBT) certificate.
- Be at least 17 years of age.
Is my 125cc learner legal?
- Not all 125's are learner legal, although most are. No bike is learner legal if it has greater power output than 11kw (14.6bhp).
Can I take my test on my automatic scooter?
- Yes you can, but your full licence will be restricted to automatics only.
Can I take my test on my 100cc bike?
- You can, but you will be restricted to riding a 125 once you passed your test. To be suitable for the standard 'A' test, the bike must be learner legal, between 121cc and 125cc, and capable of at least 100kmh (62mph). Your 100cc bike will qualify for the Small motorcycle test only.
Can I ride any bike once I pass my test?
- No, you will be restricted to riding a bike with a maximum power output of 25kw (33bhp) for 2 years after passing your test.
- If you are 21 or more, you can take the Direct Access course to by-pass this restriction.
You can only hold a provisional motorcycle licence if you are at least 17 years old. It entitles you to ride a learner legal motorcycle on the road as a learner with L-plates but you must not carry a pillion passenger or go on a motorway.
Your provisional licence is only valid when you have the DL 196 certificate issued on completion of compulsory basic training (CBT) by an approved training body (ATB).
A CBT certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles once the rider has reached the age of 17 years and has the necessary licence.
You can take your 125cc pre-test training with Road to Freedom Motorcycle and Scooter Training. Your instructor is fully qualified and licenced by the Driving standards Agency, and is calm, patient and understanding, making your day with us an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
