Motorcycle Training Weston-super-Mare

CBT, DAS and Post Test training

Live to ride, but always ride to live!

There are many opinions in the world of motorcycling as to how to define "Advanced" Riding. Our's is quite simple; whilst having sympathy toward the machine, empathy with other road-users, the law and the environment we should enable maximum progress with maximum safety levels at all times.

Like most Post-test Motorcycle Training, every individual has different levels in ability, experience and confidence. These can be assessed very quickly by an experienced Instructor so that all courses are tailored directly to suit personal needs and aspirations.

As individuals everyone has their own goals; some just want to feel happier, safer, in greater control on their pride and joy, struggling maybe to keep up with friends on similar machines due to lack of experience or confidence. It may be that just an introduction to Advanced training may be sufficient to encourage and improve any areas of your riding that might benefit from further input. Many however look to go further and take an Advanced Test or Qualification. There are several standards and organisations to which training is aimed.

The benchmark to which we aspire is that of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, or RoSPA for short. As opposed to others with simply a Pass or Fail, the Advanced Riding Test with RoADAR (RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders) is graded Bronze, Silver and Gold. It is widely acknowledged that the RoADAR Gold standard is the highest civilian qualification, the only higher standard being that of the Police. Test examiners therefore are serving or ex-Police officers. All major Insurance companies acknowledge the effort and work to obtain RoADAR Gold by offering discounts in premiums, these vary dependent on the Company, bike, etc.

The amount of training required in order to pass the test with RoADAR is dependent on the ability of the candidate prior to training, how easily they take up the new skills, and how much effort and time is put into practise. It may be as little as two or three sessions, more typically can be several sessions over a period of weeks or a few months.

Riders that attain RoADAR Gold Standard will have demonstrated a smooth, polished ride, making good progress within the laws of the road, showing a complete understanding and application of the System as defined in Motorcycle Roadcraft, the publication on which Police standards are maintained. Performance must be consistent and polished throughout, lapses will result in a lower grading.

Silver is awarded to riders who are well above the average, producing a consistently safe ride but without the polish , sparkle and smoothness of Gold riders. Silver is still a very high standard of rider ability and is commendable as such.

Those awarded Bronze grade will still display good Advanced riding techniques, well above that of passing the DSA Learner Test, but perhaps fail to apply the System consistently, having only basic knowledge of Motorcycle Roadcraft .

Do please contact us if you would like any further information or why not book your first Advanced Training session, during which we can assess and discuss your further needs!

Our advanced training may be given under the banner 'Ridesafe'.
